Solo Show

An Immortality Project is a concept proposed by Anthropologist Ernest Becker in his bookThe Denial of Death. It deals with people’s attempt to “outlive their own lives by doing or becoming a part of something that will symbolically transcend their own death.”

This Immortality Project is inspired by the ancient Sumerian tale, The Epic of Gilgamesh.  In the story, a king named Gilgamesh wants to become immortal.  To achieve this, he seeks to find an immortal who is called The Faraway in hopes that The Faraway can help him learn how to live forever.

This show is attempting to use the visual language of landscape architecture, to rethink the concept of death in relation to future advances in technology.

Rather than placing a person’s physical remains in the earth after death, a person may choose to upload the data their consciousness into a computer.  Thus achieving some measure of immortality.
